Street trees and bioretention are longer term methods of low impact development. It's something developers should do as they create housing.

The idea of just choosing one thing is wonderful. Indeed, I think this is how I've made most of my green changes... one at a time.

Sara, Most interesting! I always learn so much when I visit your blog. You seem to have vast and varied interests and acquaintences which I find most inspiring. It could be said of you that you have never met a stranger, and that is good. I am pleased that you are so happy and pray that your contentment continue to bloom and grow. May you be gripped by grace and blessed beyond your dreams.

Good timing! I didn't even realize it was Low Impact week, but this was the week I decided to try riding the bus to work rather than driving. Day one went well! Thanks for continuing to encourage us all toward caring broadly for the world God made.

I joined low-impact week too. Thanks for the reminder! I have a length of fabric for cloth napkins drying on the porch, and now I'm off to track down some cloth grocery bags. :-)

Hi. New here. I have been changing to some of these things over the course of the last few months. I love knowing that I am making this world a better place for my kids as they get older just by changing a few things in my everyday life.

I have been using some great bags from reusable bags.com and I just love them. I have found that in addition to the bags that using a milk crate for my can goods has really helped as well.

Does not having time to take a shower two days in a row count?

We already do a lot of the things on her list, but I never heard of putting a bucket in the shower when you're waiting for the water to heat up, then using that water for other household tasks. That's a good one. I'll have to try that.

This summer we plan to focus on potty-training the four-year-old, which will mean fewer diaper loads per week.
