Thinking Blogger Award

Thank you to Alina at The Closet Environmentalist , Cat at Making It Home, and Steph at Adventures in Babywearing for presenting me with the Thinking Blogger Award! If you nominated me and I didn’t list you…please email me and I will edit this!

So now…I am required to list 5 blogs that make me THINK..and those that I nominate are supposed to nominate their own five. It’s so hard to choose just five…I could list 20 (see my blogroll!) but here goes:

  • Casaubon’s Book: Thoughtful, intellectual writing. Really great stuff. Be prepared to spend awhile there.
  • Living Plastic Free: I’m always on the lookout for people that are doing “radical” things that I haven’t attempted yet. This blog really opened my eyes. Plastic is everywhere.
  • Simple Living: A blog that encourages action…especially her newest challenge.
  • Making Home: An amazing Christian woman tackling the hard issues. A lot of fun reading on her site.
  • Simplicity Soup: Rachel is beautiful on the inside and out. Her posts make me smile and sometimes I wonder if we don’t share a brain.

    I did here: http://adventuresinbabywearing.blogspot.com/2007/04/not-just-for-your-entertainment.html
! But I’d be really surprised if I am the only other one that nominated you! Your blog is the type of blog that this award was created for!

Of course any blog you nominate must be wonderful, too! I’ll check them out!

Hey Sara- Wow- thanks for the kind compliment… it’s even more of a compliment coming from someone I have learned so much from (have you seen my recent post about having used cloth diapers the last few days?). :)

Here’s my follow-up post about the Thinking Blogger award… http://makinghome.blogspot.com/search?q=thinking+award

Thanks so much for sending folks my way- I love having additional people to join the conversation!

    Sara,

I started reading your blog through Angela in TN. Anyhoo, I am trying to find a blog I thought you had written on buying locally and the impact of shipping our food. Did you write a blog recently on this topic? If so could you email me a link. I wanted to reread it and share some info with a friend. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing…I love finding new blogs that I can relate to, especially Christ-centered thinking about the environment and simple living. Yours was the first blog I found like this…and it finally made me feel not alone anymore (as most of us my friends/family/church think I’m nuts for caring for the environment). And you’ve encouraged my husband and I to “think small” with our living arrangements…thanks for inspiring us in so many ways :)

Thanks for the inspiring blog links – it’s fantastic to read and share with other like-minded Christians. I think that God would really appreciate us being good stewards of what he’s given us! Keep up the awesome blog!

I’m excited to check this out… we’re a family of five plus one cat in 1200sqft so we’ve been doing a LOT of simplifying and decluttering. It’s amazing (and embarrassing) how much junk we moved out of the house.

I can always use more ideas to make our small space work! :D

Congrats on the the award as well!

Awww, I’m blushing…thanks Sara. Now I’m going to have to start writing good posts though…

Thanks so much for your fun card! I haven’t put it away yet; everything is propped up by my magazine basket. I think it’s all going on the wall in my studio–it’s inspired my new color scheme in there!

The way communities form on blogs has been on my mind lately. One of my favorite bloggers, Steve Gilliard, died on June 2 after several months in the hospital. I have been missing his voice since February, when we was first hospitalized with what seemed like a simple infection. He had a real gift and such a distinct writing style.

Many people in his community of readers were contributing guest posts for months to keep new content up on his site, but now the blog is closed for good. I am surprised by how deeply this loss is affecting me. You start to feel like you know a person when you’ve been reading his writing every day for years.

Just wanted to say “Hi!” My name is Serenity and my friend just recently told me about your blog. I’ve been starting to keep up with you and have so enjoyed all of your ideas and inspirations. My husband and I have been on this crazy journey of more understanding of what The Kingdom should be like. Reading stuff like “Irresistible Revolution”, “Under the Overpass”, “Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger”, etc. I too would love to live in community and/or live overseas spreading Jesus to Africa- actually that is our ultimate goal, but as for now we are taking it one day at a time, being patient, and doing our best at leaving a “light” footprint.
    thanks a lot!

I really appreciate your committment to putting the Lord first in everything you do. I would like to hear more from you about how you simplified your life by moving and how you decided what to get rid of and what to keep. I loved your lists of clothes b/c that gave me a way to visualize the amounts of things that you feel are actually needed. Could you do that again with your clothing, your daughters, kitchen dishes, etc.? My husband and I are in the process of starting to really simplify and your blog has been the most inspiring and practical. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello you have inspired me as well! I have started a new blog based on my adventures of becoming more green. I recently made a post about what I should do with my less than green items :
    Paper plates
    Napkins
    Plastic Cups
    Plastic Forks

Should I use them up or what?! Please visit and give your input I would really be thankful!

    Hi Sara:

I’ve been a lurker here for about 3-4 months, and I’m not a bit surprised that you were recognized with the Thinking Blogger Award. I found your blog through links to your Flickr page on Simpleliving.net, and enjoyed your pictures so much. After a few weeks, I found your blog.

I share your passion for preserving our environment, and your posts have been so thought-provoking. While I would say that I’m not as religious as you seem to be, your discussion on the Proverbs verses about being a good wife was really great! It made me pull out my Bible to read it for myself.

Anyway, just wanted to say congratulations and keep it up. I’ll try to post comments more, and lurk a little less. :)

    Christine
