Pray for Mauro

Filed under: Mauro, Friends

Valadao Family
My heart is so heavy right now for one of my very best friends, Rebecca and her family. This week her husband, Mauro, found out that he has a brain tumor that will require immediate surgery. They are unsure if it is cancerous or not…they won’t know until they go in. The tumor is in the part of his brain that controls personality, non-verbal motions, and many other critical functions. They also do not have any health insurance.

I wish you could all know this wonderful family…they are so generous and kind and full of life. Mauro and Rebecca run the Capoeira group in Des Moines. This is their livelihood, and they are unsure if Mauro will be able to teach again after the surgery. Bianca, their daughter, is like a sister to Bella. We spent so much time with them when we lived in Des Moines…you can see some of our fun times in the photos here and here and here. It’s so hard for me to be leaving to go on the road right now in this time when they need their friends the most. Please join me in covering them with prayer as they walk down this path.

Our friends in Des Moines are starting to plan fundraisers…not so much to cover the cost of the surgery (which will be huge)…but to help offset the cost of all of the unexpected expenses when someone you love gets sick. My prayer is that those of you who are reading this will give even just a LITTLE bit to help this family. Even a few dollars…it will all add up and will be such a blessing to them. Sometimes I like to measure things in caramel lattes…so this week, let’s all give up our caramel latte to bless this family.

100% will go to the Valadao family.

    We never know do we? I pray that God will give them strength as they fight this battle, and that He will surround them with love and support and bring His saints to minister to them. I also pray that He will be with you and Matt, that you guys will know that His hand is on your dear friends, and that His hand is a mighty one!

    I WILL lift up my eyes to the hills–
    From whence comes my help?
    My help comes from the LORD,
    Who made heaven and earth.

    He will not allow your foot to be moved;
    He who keeps you will not slumber.
    Behold, He who keeps Israel
    Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

    The LORD is your keeper;
    The LORD is your shade at your right hand.
    The sun shall not strike you by day,
    Nor the moon by night.

    The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;
    He shall preserve your soul.
    The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in
    From this time forth, and even forevermore.

    Psalm 121

    Thank you for posting. I will make a donation and will pray for a good outcome from the surgery.

    I urge everyone also to work toward a more equitable health care system in this country so that problems like Mauro’s can be diagnosed sooner. About 47 million people in the US lack any form of health insurance.

    So sorry to hear this Sara, I will definitely be praying for this family. My husband had a bleed in about the same area, and after the surgery his personality and some physical functions were drastically different. Over time, he has healed to almost his same self, but it is difficult. Please keep us posted on what is going on!

    Lord Jesus cover this family right now. You are still God of miracles and healing. Cover Mauro with your peace Lord, and touch him with perfect health. We are not promised anything in this life God, but we are your children, loved by you, fathered by you. Mauro, Rebecca, and Bianca need you now Jesus. Wrap them in your loving arms and be their strength during this time. I speak blessings upon this family right now…on their health, safety, and their finances. You know just what is needed at this moment God, and I ask that it is provided..use anyone around them to provide for their needs. Let Rebecca’s strength outshine fatigue as she cares for Mauro. Give her supernatural strength and wisdom during this time. For little Bianca, occupy her space Lord, occupy her mind, thoughts, and her little heart. Keep her from being troubled about her Daddy’s health, instead may she trust that she is cared for, that he will be healed, and may she walk in your covering, untouched by the things around her right now.
    We don’t understand the purpose of sickness, but we ask that you use this time to draw this family closer to you. Be their comfort,their healer, and their joy. Thankyou for being You God..I ask in Jesus name, Amen.

    Hi Sara,
    I have a very good friend who was diagnosed last year with a brain tumor and is doing very well today. She was on welfare when her tumor was discovered but God has helped and provided for her each step of the way. I am praying for Mauro and Rebecca. God really is a Strong Tower that we can run to in times of trouble.
    In Him,
    P

    What a beautiful family! They will be in my prayers and I think the “latte” analogy is wise. Ive come to respect you so much through your writing, and I hurt just knowing your family is hurting. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ, even if we’ve never met.

    Your friends will be in our thoughts.

    A family we know is going through something similar - the father was diagnosed with brain cancer shortly before his first child was born - about a year ago.

    I cannot imagine what this family is going through.

    Let us know how things go.

    The state of Iowa has pretty good Medicaid coverage. Urge them to look into that. Since he has a daughter he should have eligibility as long as they meet the financial guidelines.

    Hi.
    I had brain surgery three years ago for a tumor in the same area. I did suffer from Frontal Lobe Syndrome after the surgery and was on disability for two years but NOW I am back working again, supporting my family, and am very healthy in every way. I will pray for this sweet family and I’d like to donate but I can’t do it online. Can you eme personally and let me know of a snail mail address where I can send a money order? Thanks so much and my prayers are with this dynamic beautiful young family!
    In Him,
    Donna R.

    I am praying for them. Please keep us posted! I’m sure like you said it must be so difficult to be leaving during this time. You never know if God has someone special planned for you and Matt to meet on the road that will help them.

    I have some friends who went through this a few years ago as well. Martin started having symptoms soon after they were married, and long-story-short, they had to go in several times to remove the tumor, and he had a very hard time. His wife, Laura (Story) is a singer/songwriter and leads worship in GA. If you were to contact her anytime during their trial, I know she would be more than happy to talk to them and encourage them as well as Martin.

    We are praying for you, Mauro!
