Google Not God?
Filed under: Blogs, Following Jesus, Self-Discipline, Simplifying
I came across this awesome post and I knew I needed to pass it on. She so eloquently says what I have been thinking for a long time…although I am no where near deciding to stop blogging! My favorite part of the post:
“It is almost like if I have a problem my first thought is Google not God.”
And the part at the end about looking into your child’s eyes…that was convicting! Read it today! A big thanks to Amy at Lavender Sparkles for posting it first.

Wow – I have had the same thoughts myself, wondering if I replace God with Google… and I think if I’m honest, I do.

Now there’s a great quote. And just when I’m preparing a little segment (on exiting the blogworld) for a conference presentation on authors and blogging! Thanks.

The thing I love about my computer and the Internet is that both are an awesome tool. I crank up my computer in the a.m. and up pops my Elisabeth Elliot daily devotional and my link for the online Bible that I read daily. Next there is my food journal on my virtual desktop with which I track my food intake…if I don’t know the calorie count I can google the food name….I’ve been able to keep track and lose some weight. Available are some bookmarked blogs from other losers (as in weight) and for free I get input that I paid Weight Watchers $12 every week. I never have to buy magazines or cookbooks, I can get most everything for free (well, my connection does cost me $20 a month). And I’ve found a mini-ministry because I can leave comments that encourage young frustrated mothers and I can become informed as I read other bloggers express their concerns on their blogs—there is actual discourse taking place.
Like any good thing I could use it for evil instead of good. But for now it is good. I feel like it gives me a voice I can get nowhere else…and an audience to go with it.

Dinah…I’m right there with you. I use the Internet for EVERYTHING. It’s my phone book, my Bible reference, my weather, my news, my lifeline to the outside world
I just loved how she worded it…and I took it to mean do we look too much to external sources instead of God? And I know I do. Thanks for your very thoughtful comment!
