Can The Clutter

can-the-clutter.jpg

I’m always looking for clever organizational tools…and I love this one featured by HGTV. Click here for 5 different ideas, including one for the kitchen using pie filling cans…so colorful and eye catching! There are always cool cans at garage sales, antique stores, and thrift shops…I had never thought about mounting them on the wall! A big thanks to Kristi at Good Like a Medicine for passing it along!

I love the smaller cans in the drawer. I think we will try the pencil, crayon holders in my oldests room. I have also seen baby food jars(or any small glass jars with metal lids) reused for organization. Affix (with screw/nail) the lids to the bottom of a shelf, then screw the jar onto the lid. You can hold paper clips, tacks, rubberbands, small nails, screw, etc. A great way to utilize and reuse

That’s a great idea. I have been thinking about cans this week, because I learned that unfortunately, a lot of canned foods (including some of the brands of canned beans and tomatoes I’ve been buying for years) are manufactured with bisphenol-a (BPA). For more info, click here:

As always, clutter is a huge problem in my house. We accumulate way too much paper.

That’s a great idea. I’d just like to add:
1: Don’t mount the rows of cans as close together as in photo, and it will be easier to get what you want, especially if you have to “fish” for it. You could also stager the can placement in each row, like brick-laying, so that each can is under the gap between the two cans above it.
    2. Important! Unless you have one of those specialized can-openers that leaves no sharp edge (and I’m pretty sure one was not used on the photographed cans, as they still have the upper rims), please glue some ribbon or something around the inside of the upper rim, where there is so often jagged metal, thus protecting the family’s fingers and hands from cut and infection.

We cute. That looks like a fun project. I do have the special can opener and I agree with an earlier poster that you should use one to do this project. You don’t want somebody getting cut as they reach for a crayon.

We are delighted you like our can ideas! We used a clean-edge can opener mentioned in the opening of the article. We got ours at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It is the OXO Smooth-Edge Can Opener.
