What Are You Listening To?

I love music. Whenever I am home…I love to have music playing in the background. It’s soothing, inspiring, and can completely change my mood from cranky to uplifted in a matter of minutes. I would love to hear what you are listening to right now…because I’ve been stuck on my same ‘ol playlists for a LONG time! :) Here is a sampling of some of my favorites:

Shane and Shane
Sufjan Stevens
Shawn McDonald
Hillsong worship stuff
Waterdeep
Ani DiFranco
Alana Davis
Damian Rice
Ingrid Michaelson
Jack Johnson
Rascal Flatts
Moby
Sarah McLaughlin
Neil Young

What’s on your favorite playlist that you play over and over?

Usually every morning when I go into the kitchen to get coffee I turn on the local christian rock station. They always have great songs playing. And I leave it on all day so I can feel up lifted and it keeps the crankies away, definitely.

those are some frequent visitors to my playlist, too. :) especially waterdeep, who, along with david crowder band and raffi, pretty much has a permanant spot in our cd player. i recently found a cd i made when i was in college and it’s been added to the current rotation. lots of joni mitchell, the lemonheads, dressy bessy, indigo girls, and a random frank zappa song thrown in. evidently it was my ‘music to be happy to’ cd when i was 19. :)

Listening to Charlotte Church, Andrea Bocelli, and Josh Groban are ones that make me feel happy. Also, once in awhile I listen to a group called The Watchmen (out of Nampa, Idaho of all places). One of the men used to be my organ teacher…plus I enjoy some kind of Southern Gospel style sometimes.

Right now I’m loving the album “Identity Theft” by Enation. Search for them on cdbaby.com. They’re like U2 meets Bob Dylan meets an intense passion for God. Their second and third albums are fantastic also.

I’m also loving Jackson Waters, who remind me a lot of Switchfoot.

This is my first comment on your blog- thanks so much for all of your sharing!

Have you heard Lindsay Mac? Think Ani DiFranco with a cello strapped around her neck. She’s a new favorite of mine and I think (based on your list) you’d really like her!

If you like indie stuff listen to Jacob and Lily (guitar and percussion … gorgeous voice and lyrics), Karla Adolphe (fantastic worship stuff .. not mainstream though) or The Wailin’ Jenny’s (three girls … beautiful harmonies). Also love Michael Franti (fun, funky, and it’s all about love, love, love) and Dale Nikkel (inspiring deep lyrics).

    1. Adrienne Young. ( very green, very joyful, kinda bluegrass/country. Her album “The art of virtue” was inspired by Ben Franklin’s essay. Awesome!)

    2. Once, the soundtrack. Haunting. Indie. Lovely.

    4. Ani Difranco
    5. John McCutcheon
    6. Mary, Mary
    7. Jes Karper
