What Are You Listening To?

I love music. Whenever I am home…I love to have music playing in the background. It’s soothing, inspiring, and can completely change my mood from cranky to uplifted in a matter of minutes. I would love to hear what you are listening to right now…because I’ve been stuck on my same ‘ol playlists for a LONG time! :) Here is a sampling of some of my favorites:

Shane and Shane
Sufjan Stevens
Shawn McDonald
Hillsong worship stuff
Waterdeep
Ani DiFranco
Alana Davis
Damian Rice
Ingrid Michaelson
Jack Johnson
Rascal Flatts
Moby
Sarah McLaughlin
Neil Young

What’s on your favorite playlist that you play over and over?

Good list! I love “Welcome Home” by Shawn McDonald… and how can you go wrong with Ingrid Michaelson or Rascal Flatts among others on that list??? You can’t!!

As for me? I’m currently on a new (musicless) computer and have been getting my fix via Pandora… my “James Blunt” (with added variety of John Mayer and Colbie Callait) has produced a pretty awesome playlist. My Lifehouse station is pretty good too. I’d recommend both.

I’m also going to give two thumbs up for Bethany Dillon and the Wicked soundtrack.

I kind of get into a rut, too. Lately my faves have been My Morning Jacket (album: Z) Old R.E.M. and Ben Folds Five (album: Forever and Ever, Amen).

I see you aren’t listening to SAra Groves or Fernando Ortega. These never fail to uplift me.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Travelling Wilbury’s recently (totally random!) and some Jack Johnson. Mainly, I’ve been stuck listening to the same rock station whenever I’m at the glass shop, so anything that’s “popular” right now is probably stuck in my head!

This is such a fun one, Sara! I love music too. I’m so glad God invented it. My favorites lately are also Shane&Shane along with Leeland, The Afters, Shawn McDonald, Todd Agnew, David Crowder Band, i’m still listening to Christmas music a lot, and often have one of my Women of Faith cd’s going when I’m cleaning house. I usually listen to Andy Hunter when I’m running. I used to listen to a lot of Blindside, Red, FamilyForce5 but I am kind of mellowing out lately.

i love Shawn McDonald…I actually found your website through his wife’s blog (http://katemcdonald.wordpress.com/)

Some people I’ve been listening to recently…

    Blake Aaron Guthrie
    Matthew Mayfield
    Bethany Dillon
Jon Foreman (THIS is the lead singer from Switchfoot!)
Jon McLaughlin (he is not Switchfoot-he was on Enchanted though)
    Willowfair
Jenny & Tyler (great indie group)
    BarlowGirl
    Alli Rogers

A great website where you can get music from most of these people is http://www.noisetrade.com totally legal, it was started by a singer (derek webb) and people that can’t get a record deal (most of the time-sometimes they have them) put their music on there.

    Hope you enjoy!

oh, and Bethany Dillon is married to one of the Shane &Shane’s and Shawn McDonald is her brother in law (her sister’s blog link is the one I put up there)

    Great list!

Death cab for cutie & Nickelcreek are always a favorite.

Sometimes if I’m stressed or in a foul mood, I put on Eckhart Tolle’s, The Power of Now, book that I have on tape. Listening to them reminds me of what is important and whatever I have going on that’s upsetting me, goes away. If you haven’t read or listened to any of his books, I highly recommend them. He narrates the books himself, and his voice alone is very soothing.
He gives such a strong spiritual message and it changed my life.

Oh I can’t believe you don’t listen to Ray Lamontagne yet! You must check out his latest, Gossip in the Grain. Also in heavy rotation at our house; Martin Sexton, Ryan Adams, Shawn Colvin, and Susan Tedeschi. My labor playlist with Jonas had those and k.d. lang’s Hymn’s of the 49th Parallel. Beautiful!

I really enjoy listening to the music of the artists that you’ve listed, I think that you might like Jill Paquette. I’ve taken pleasure in her music for a few years but I have to say that her website sums up her music style better than I could. “Jill Paquette’s organic, soulful music mixed with honest, expressive lyrics communicates the earnestness of seeking to understand the purpose of her journey, the spiritual meaning of life and living, and the connectedness of us all.” You can sample her music here – http://www.jillpaquette.com/

We’ve been listening to Steep Canyon Rangers, some Abigail Washburn (my daughter LOVES her version of “His Eye is on the Sparrow”)…Israel Kamakawiwo’ole is a longtime favorite, as is Cowboy Mouth. We really, really love music at this house, and a day can range from classical to irish folk to 80′s to rock to jazz and so on. Our iTunes library is a little schizophrenic. :-)
