Colorado Sunshine

We’re going on our third week in Colorado…and although I love the sunshine, I’m definitely feeling ready to get back to my little house in Montana :) The third trimester nesting urges are here in force. Here are some highlights (and a few anti-highlights):

  • The weather has been lovely. Mostly between 50′s and mid-70′s. Yesterday was so hot in the sun that I got a little pink on the cheeks while sitting at the coffee shop.
  • Bella was really sick for a week, and then I got sick for a week…and we’re just now coming out of that. I’m pretty sure mine has turned into a sinus infection. I’m perpetually amazed at the color of snot coming out of my body. Keeps the day exciting. We’ve been laying pretty low and haven’t done much around town because of this.
  • It’s been wonderful spending time with my brother, Dan. Yesterday, he and I spent the entire day together while Matt and Bella went skiing with friends. The project that Matt is helping him with is the renovation of a 22,000 sq. foot fraternity house on the campus of CU. He bought it, is remodeling it, and then leasing it back to the fraternity.  Here are some pics of the progress.
  • Time with friends. We had a great time staying with Kris and Natalie the first 2 weeks of our stay…it’s always great to connect with friends that truly KNOW you and you can just be yourself with. They are some of our dearest friends and we were thankful for that time with them. There was a lot of laughing, kids playing, coffee, watching American Idol, and House. Good times. Here are some pics for ya.
  • Boulder knows how to do food. Our favorite spot is the Brasserie Ten Ten…possibly the most amazing weekend brunch around, on a sun-filled patio. It’s just so, so good. I’m still thinking about it and I’m secretly planning on going there again next Sunday. Another fun spot is The Kitchen, which has been dubbed the “greenest restaurant in the West”. They really do walk the talk…from running on 100% wind power, to buying local and organic, to the cloth towels in the bathroom. Top that off with crazy delicious food and you’ll never want to leave. Know Thai is another fave…right on the Hill, this little place has the best tofu spring rolls in town. Amante Coffee has really yummy stuff…although coffee hasn’t been “working” for me this pregnancy, they have some delicious teas. If you are a coffee drinker, they really make the best cup in town.
  • On a more scandalous note, our car has been broken into TWICE within 3 days while parked at our rental condo. The little thieves took about $1500 worth of snowboard gear/electronics, broke our window, CD player, and messed up the dash. So, we’ve been dealing with that for the past week. Luckily, our renter’s insurance covers us worldwide and we were able to replace everything. We only had liability on the car, so the bodily damage wasn’t covered. However, I have an amazingly resourceful husband who found replacement parts for everything at a junkyard in Denver and replaced everything himself…saving us hundreds of dollars in repair. We’ve since added comprehensive coverage :)
  • All things pregnancy are going well…I am 29 weeks now and the babe is moving around like crazy! I’ve found a chiropractor in Boulder that I’m going to see this week…along with a good yoga studio. Speaking of yoga…I’m excited because this weekend I’m going to Denver to take a prenatal yoga instructor course. I’m looking forward to teaching other women the benefits of yoga in pregnancy … it’s been a life saver for me!
  • I think that’s about it. Hope you’re having a lovely day…wherever you are!

Hope you all get to feeling better soon!

We had a break-in incident on vacation one time. The theives stole a cd player we were borrowing at the time, along with the cd inside … they didn’t think to steal the actual stereo or the book of CDs in the car. :)

    Enjoy the yoga class!

Your post made me a bit homesick. Before you leave, you should check out Lucile’s – they are only open for breakfast – but they are wonderful! Creole food. And if you like Ethiopian – Ras Kasas. Very yummy!

I know exactly where that frat house is, and it was in some dire need of fixing up. Wow, I miss Boulder!

    Have a great trip!

Hi, I found your blog through the Homespun Oasis link and I love it.

I’m a Colorado transplant, now living in Philadelphia. I grew up in Denver and spent a lot of time in Boulder through the years. It’s a fun town. When I was young I used to love going up on a Saturday morning and spending the day sitting in the sun at the Pearl Street Mall. It gives a whole new meaning to “hoodlems hanging out at the mall…”hehehhe

I hope you’ve enjoyed your vacation.

I’ll definitely be back here to visit again. I really love this blog.

That makes me miss Colorado so much! :( My hubby was talking about moving to Montana or Utah the other day. I don’t know if I could handle the extreme cold and high energy bills in Montana, but it’s a place I’ve always wanted to visit. I am sure it is breathtakingly beautiful.

I am so sorry someone broke in to your car. That is not nice at all. :(

How exciting that you are going to get trained to teach prenatal yoga! I did a little yoga when I was preggers with Landing, but haven’t done it since. I have been feeling achy and very not-limber lately and was thinking that some yoga would be just the ticket. I would love to hear how you like the videos you got (and what the names of them were again).
Glad to hear that Matt was able to fix your car. Gosh, he sure is a handy guy!

Jen…actually, our energy bills in Montana are the lowest they’ve been anywhere! :) You just have to make sure you have a wood burning stove!

Laurel…I think you would really like it and it would make you feel much better. My general aches and pains are minimal…I was so much worse with Bella. The DVD’s I would recommend are: Jennifer Wolfe’s Vinyasa Prenatal Yoga, Shiva Rae Prenatal Yoga, and Crunch Yoga Mama. Hope that helps!

Oooh, so jealous! We are trying to get there but Texas weather is just so alluring right now.

That really sucks about your car though, I’m so sorry. Glad it’s all straightened out.

Agggh, big city. I hate it!

What a great picture, Sara! Congratulations on your new blessing on the way! We just had our second daughter, Libby (Elizabeth), at the end of December and have our 2.5 year old Grace, as well. It’s true joy! I love following the blog and haven’t been able to leave as many comments as I’ve liked with a nursing baby in one arm, LOL (and we sold our house at the end of last year…time-consuming, eek!), but I’m praying all the best for you guys and can’t wait to see what Jesus has in store!

Hi Sara, I am very excited to hear you are undertaking yoga teacher training. This has been a dream of mine for some time. You must let us know how the training went, as I see I’m not the only one who’s interested.

It’s so much fun to read about local places! Hello from a Boulderite! Boulder is a great place for living green and living natural, tho we still have some work to do to be sure, but I am glad you have found some of the best spots in town. Sorry about the break-ins, unfortunately they are pretty frequent in and around campus. I hope you don’t experience any more during your stay!

Sarah…hi from Boulder. We actually weren’t near campus at all. We’re staying on the other side of town in a short term rental. So…I think it’s just Boulder :) It’s a fun town, but I am sure ready to get back to quiet, slower-paced Bozeman. Boulder feels like a metropolitan area.

How awful about the break-in! Sorry to hear that. Otherwise, it sounds like you guys had a great visit. Hopefully you and Bella are feeling 100% better by now. Two of my kids and I have the flu right now, and Jeromy had it last week, so we are beyond ready to be done with it all.

Super cool about you learning to be a yoga instructor, by the way. How fun!

    Hey there,

I’m just wondering if you could do a blog about clothing and what you keep in your closet. I’m trying to really cut down on mine and my hubbys wardrobe but it is sooo hard. Also I’m pregnant too, due in August and would love to know what is in your pregnancy wardrob as well!

    Thanks,

Your post made me a bit homesick, too! We lived in Colorado for many years. Three of our boys were born there. It is a great place!

While there I learned about La Leche League and home birth. (Two of our boys were born at home.)We began homeschooling there, too.

I used to love taking the kids to Wild Oats for lunch where we’d order a little of this and that and sit out beneath the Flat Irons while being kissed by the sun.

Tofu eggrolls and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. YUM!!!

    Now we’re homesteading in Missouri.

    Take care,
    Susana

Sorry to hear about your car.I guess people just come up to these rental places to steal stuff from folks.

You’d think that they’d bump up security during the tourist season but I suppose they can only do so much.

Still it’s good news you got the car fixed and it didn’t ruin the entire time.
