I’m impressed, I must say. Really not often do I encounter a blog that’s each educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you may have hit the nail on the head. Your concept is outstanding; the difficulty is one thing that not sufficient individuals are talking intelligently about. I'm very blissful that I stumbled throughout this in my search for something referring to this.

After having this Berkey system for some time now, do you have any new thoughts on which is the best to buy? I want to buy one... finally.

Just wanted to make a quick clarification as we settle on the Berkey System. anniegirl's info is half right. The British Berkefeld system uses the Sterasyl™ ceramic filter uses silver, however the Black Berkey filters (which are an upgrade in filter elements) used with the Berkey system does not contain silver. Make sure when you purchase your Berkey system to not order the Berkey with the white Sterasyl™ filters, but get the Black Berkey filters instead. The information can be found on Berkey's site here http://www.berkeyfilters.com/berkeyfaqs.htm.

Sara, Thanks for introducing us to this system!!

I researched these a bit because we were considering getting one.

Just as an FYI (you probably already know, but I think it's worth putting out there), the filters contain silver which is what makes them self-sterilizing. For the short term it's probably fine, but long-term, continuous consumption of silver is something to avoid, especially for children. We chose not to buy one for this reason.

It's surprisingly difficult to find a good filter!

Best wishes.

I appreciate the info about the filters, but are you aware of any other sites that offer the Berkey? I would rather not give my money to anyone who has anything to do with the Pearls.

TheOrganicSister...I think it tastes better. RO takes EVERYTHING from the water usually, including minerals and other good stuff. Berkey leaves the good stuff in. It's quite yummy.

Tracy...we have the 2 element. Kind of wishing I would have gotten the four for faster filtration, but 2 isn't bad.

We're considering this since our RO system finally kicked the bucket. Compared to RO, how's the taste?

Thank you for this info! This will be my new water filter. I had never heard of them but impressed me after you wrote about it and I looked it up. Love that it's stainless, doesn't plug in to anywhere, and the fact that the cartridges are cleanable and indefinitely re-usable makes the cost justifiable to me. Like someone mentioned I would prob use glass jugs to keep plenty on hand like I do now with my faucet mounted type. I love your blog! keep em comin'

Because of your blog I'm also considering the all wool futon from Small Wonders to replace my bed eventually. Did you ever buy it? I'm trying to compare with Shepherd's dream which is more expensive but so beautiful. Neither is local so I better make a lot of phone calls, I guess.
