Rainbows of Living Color

I’ve written in the past about contentment and wanting and living a life without complaining. It’s a theme that comes up in my heart over and over. And that’s because I haven’t quite mastered it yet.

The attitude of my heart ebbs and flows in direct proportion to the amount of time I spend in connection with Jesus. When I hear myself complaining, feel discontentment, or when I feel any sort of fear starts to creep into my mind, I know something needs to change in my walk with Him. After examining my life, it’s usually pretty easy to determine what has crept in and stolen my heart away from Him. It could be idol time spent online or time spent pursuing passions. But whatever it is, I have to work diligently to re-focus and re-connect.

One way that I reconnect is to listen to and sing worship music. I’ve been listening to Jesus Culture a lot lately (thanks Steph!)…and one of my favorite songs they perform is “Revelation Song”. Every time I hear it, I come into a place of longing to know Jesus more. I will often pray and journal as I listen…writing down the lyrics that really melt into my heart. Today I wrote…

Filled with wonder,
Awestruck wonder
At the mention of Your Name
Jesus, Your Name is Power
Breath, and Living Water
Such a marvelous mystery

Clothed in rainbows, of living color
Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor, strength and
Glory and power be
To You the Only Wise King…
Even just mentioning His name is powerful. If you are at a point where you don’t know where else to turn or what to do, just speaking His name aloud will bring peace. He is a living, amazing God. Jesus IS the ONLY Wise King. And as I hear those words, I am reminded that He is wise BEYOND MEASURE. I can trust Him. I can rest in Him. Regardless of what my heart feels, I can still choose to place my focus on those rainbows of living color that he wraps around me.

    Hi Sara!
I just want to tell you that I love your blog. You have a beautiful family that is such an inspiration. I began reading Shane Claiborne’s book because you suggested them. Love him! Thanks for your example!

Beeautiful thoughts Sara, i have been sort of going through the same thing and my womens group is doing a study right now called set apart from Jenifer Dean and it has opened my eyes so much…the knowledge i have had before is finally moving to my heart!!!!!! I am so excited. When i feel that im not putting God in the center of my day or “feel” him near, A fried tells me to imagine Jesus is right there in front of me and i do and give him a little eskimo kiss!!!! hahaha

Do you listen to Kari Jobe? Her music has taken me through a spiritual progression, and while I love every track on her album, “You Are For Me” gets me every time. :)

Awesome…we just sang this song in church on Sunday morning, and God was telling me pretty much the same thing you described in your blog. He is the only one who can fill us…sustain us…and I need to stop looking to other things/people/whatever to do so. Thanks for sharing this [and for posting the link - I'm going to go listen to it now!]….

Sara, when I first found your blog, learned you’re a Jesus follower and that you write about your faith walk here, I was thrilled. Reading this post is like opening a neat package! Love your heart.

And speaking of Kari Jobe, have you listened to her version of The More I Seek You?

“this love is so deep, it’s more than I can stand,
I melt in Your peace, it’s overwhelming.”

i remember being at a place where all i could utter was his name, and YES it brings so much comfort – there absolutely is power in his name!

i hear you about the complaining … i think that is the one area of my life i have to work on, probably above everything else.

Sara, this post blessed me SO much today. I’m really struggling with something in my marriage and have just felt so discouraged over the last 24 hours, but reading your last paragraph and listening to the song were exactly what I needed. Than you for allowing God to use you. :)

Thanks for the encouraging word. Am a big fan of the Jesus Culture music as well. Heard of a blog a few months ago. A refreshing, still voice in a world of noise.

Meant to say “your blog” in my post, but am sure there is “a blog” out there that is refreshing and clean as well. :-)

I like your website and it’s name! I find it quite inspirational. “Consumed” is one of my all time favorite albums.

It was actually the 3rd CD recording that my wife and I have attended for a JC album! Absolutely love Jesus Culture and what they are doing to impact not only the youth but the music industry.

Keep writing! Your doing a good work. : )
