One Fine Saturday
In September of 2008, I met Ellen at a Live Lightly Tour gathering in Denver. We have continued to stay in touch online and this past weekend we finally found a day to spend together. Within a few minutes, I was wondering what took us so long to reunite! Ellen and I have much in common and the kids had such fun playing together…we’re already planning our next meet up!
Ellen brought a delicious warm vegan apple crisp that we enjoyed while drinking our yerba mate
Sunlight streamed in the back door as we laughed and talked about oh so many things.
Bella and Margaret spent much of their time dressing and re-dressing to find the perfect look.
Lucy and J.J. supervised.
The weather was beautiful, so we spent a lot of time in the backyard. The kids dug in the dirt and made forts.
And of course…we hooped. Big surprise, I know
We decided to go on a “road trip” to the Thai restaurant for take-out.
A good time was had by all. The kids practiced their chopsticks skills, and Ellen and I sighed with delight as we savored our tom kha, fresh spring rolls, and pad thai.
Can’t wait to do it again…but next time we will head to their place in Denver! Ellen tells me her neighborhood has the BEST thrift stores, Thai restaurants, and a vegan ice cream shop.
Yay! It was certainly one fine Saturday.

What a sweet day! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun.
Random question, I’ve never been to a thrift store. I looked online to find one in my area and the closest one is a Salvation Army store. Have you tried them before? Any tips on thrifting? Thanks!

Hi Lisa! Yes, Salvation Army would be a great place to start! Here are some tips:
*Be prepared to “dig”. It’s not like shopping at a regular store where you find what you are looking for on an organized rack. Sometimes they are organized by size, sometimes not.
*Check clothing closely for rips, stains, etc. and obviously wash well when you get them home.
*Ask around to see where to good thrift stores are!
*Don’t underestimate the power of a coat of paint and/or a good wash!
Have fun!

You know, it would be awesome to finally meet you in person. We know all the same people practically, yet we have never met in person! LOL! We will be heading state side in the fall… we are planning a road trip to share at different churches and meet up with friends. Would love to swing by your place… we have friends that live in Denver. Any way we could borrow your RV for the road trip?! LOL!!!

I’m a HUGE fan of thrift stores and Goodwill is my favorite. I’m glad you are able to make such good friends. It’s so fun to “see” your family grow up.

I’m just thinking that it wasn’t but a week or so ago that you shared pic of your girls playing in their little house and there was a foot of snow around it. It’s so amazing how snow comes and go.
Love the pics.

What a wonderful day! I love those kinds of days.
I have to mention the “keep austin weird” t-shirt Bella is wearing. That made this Texan’s heart happy!

Vegan ice cream shop!? What I wouldn’t give! You need to get your mom and Pop on that in Des Moines. I SO miss taking the kids out for ice cream now that we’re dairy free!
