A Big Truck and Lots of Sun

Filed under: Daily Life, Life in Longmont

We got up early this morning to take Matt to pick up his new truck! We’ve been looking for what seems like forever for one to replace the SportTrac…he needed something a little bigger for work. And oh boy…it’s big!

It’s also a diesel and we are super excited to convert it to run on straight veggie oil. Gas prices are getting a bit scary these days. After owning it for about 5 minutes, I heard him muttering something about looking for a fifth wheel. Ha! You can take the man off the road but…

After dropping Daddy off at the dealer, we took off to the mall. And our mall has this huge “beach-like” area that we played in. The girls dug and filled their clothes and shoes with sand. Bella created giant letter “ditches” for each of our names. Mom and I stocked up on Vitamin D. It was so HOT! Loved it. I am SO excited for summer to get here. I can taste the watermelon already.

And one last thing. If you ever wonder how I got SO CRAZY…

Blame this lady :) So thankful to have this time with my mama.

Gas prices crazy high here too. I can’t believe how challenging it is to afford to drive these days. GORGEOUS truck. I have a man who loves his truck too. Keep enjoying the CO sunshine. I here you’re closer to God up there.

we pay almost 1,60 Euro per Litre, thats 2.32 Dollar p. L. ! unbelievable. we’re living in a little village and so often you HAVE to drive! but i would never move into the city, neverever.

We sold our car nearly five years ago and now make do with public transport, taxi and rental. We live in Stockholm city centre so it works unbelievably well. Something that really tipped the scale for us was a fact I read that the average car (I guess this was Sweden) is on the road only 4 percent of the time even though the cost is ticking 24/7 what with value decrease, garage space, taxes, insurance and all.

A very green way to live, but of course not always doable.

What kind of truck is it? We are looking for one similar to convert to veg. We also want to get a 5th wheel and travel at least part time. We live in an apartment and hubby is self employed (remodeling contractor) so it would be easy to take off for a few months. He has potential work in Austin next fall and we are in Spokane, WA. We hope to be able to travel through the southwest on the way to Texas. Do you have a resource that explains ways to get work on the road? How do you handle licenses, insurance, taxes, etc?

    So precious!

And I agree with you on the gas prices. Even though we’re in the ‘burbs, I try to ride my bike as much as possible. Our nearest Whole Foods is less than 2 miles away…but I have to cross a highway to get there. Bummer.

Sweet Pics! Converting to veggie oil? We need to do that to Carl’s truck. The gas prices are killing us! But our son does fry cooking at the deli and says that their is tons of veggie oil wasted daily.

I read your blog faithfully, but rarely leave you comments, sorry! I had to though, when I just noticed your mother’s scarf! I am wearing the exact same one right now, and I bought it in France or Germany (can’t remember which), back in 2005. Where did she get hers!? She looks like a fun momma, thanks for sharing!!

There is obviously a bundle to know about this. I consider you made various good points in features also.
