A Snowy Surprise

The girls were THRILLED to see snow outside our window just a week after moving to the mountains. The big, fluffy flakes danced down slowly from the sky all day…finally stopping after about 7 inches had piled up. It was so fun to see the landscape change in such a dramatic way. We’re looking forward to lots of snow to play in this winter!

Snow against weathered wood and aspens…I love it.

Still coming down.

A few days prior…my burly mountain man worked on getting all of our firewood in order.

He had an enthusiastic (and cute) little helper.

I’m sure glad we were prepared…

…there is nothing quite like a crackling, toasty fire inside with the snow falling outside!

I have to admit, this looks quite cozy. I’m not a fan of snow, unless I don’t have anywhere to go. :)

Oh my goodness!!! And I thought we were inching into winter here — we had our first frost this morning. But wow! That’s a serious season change.

Oh I just love the sound of sitting inside by the fire while the snow falls outside. Sounds absolutely lovely.

Congratulations on so much exciting news! Looks like you have found a perfect place for winter. Ahh – I miss my living at 8,000 – 10,000 ft Colorado days. Used to literally live beside the Eagle river and to this day, miss that year-round zen sound. Enjoy every moment up there!

I am enjoy your posts. Seeing the snow in your pics makes me long for our cabin in the NC mountains. Snow hasn’t started there yet but in another month or so it will. I admire your move. It looks heavenly.

LOL…I actually just had them put on 2 days before the snow! Although, the nice thing is that we don’t have anything we HAVE to be to…so when it snows, we can just stay home! :) And Matt has his big 4WD truck, so he’s good. I definitely stick out in my mini-van around here…amidst the sea of Subarus and Land Cruisers :)

We have a cast-iron kettle like that, too, and fill it with cinnamon sticks and orange peels. You have to watch it so it doesn’t dry out and burn in a thick, black, tar-like crust to the bottom, but it smells heavenly.

Jen…that sounds amazing! Although, knowing my memory, I would NEVER remember to fill it and it would burn to a crisp. :)

The grandparents are gonna have a bit more trouble getting to visit atop the mountain huh? Its beautiful. Does Matt have to get out to go to work every day? It would be hard to leave all that cozy.

Nah…they will come wherever we are! :) Matt goes to Boulder every day for work…it’s a 20-25 minute drive with no traffic. Plus, it’s gorgeous! :) I do try to limit our commitments though, right now we only have one thing that we need to be down for, which is nice.

I am so stinkin happy you are blogging again. I am a new reader, last 3 months or so. I have been on bedrest for 3 months after a simple hysterectomy, hahaha simple if you have no complications. I had them all. I have so enjoyed reading about your family adventures, your dreads and looking at the great photographs. I ventured out today to Trader Joes (yeehaw) and the girl scanning my groceries had dreads. I stared at them with a whole new perspective! They are beautiful. Thanks for the good read, I hope you are on your way to an uneventful pregnancy. Many blessings and good vibes.

Oh my goodness, your photos make me so nostalgic for the time in my life when I lived out there! I lived just a bit south of you, in Clear Creek County. LOVED it, both the mountains and the people. Ah, to look out my front door and see Mt Evans every morning. :sigh: Enjoy it! :)

Also, congrats on your pregnancy! I’ve read your blog for a couple years now- love reading about your adventures :) .
