Coffee, Yarn, & Glow Sticks

This morning I met another Bozeman friend for coffee…my kindred hooping spirit and mama friend, Mary. So good to connect again…even if it was just for a few hours.

After that Matt, the girls, and I headed downtown and stopped in at the new Co-op downtown (which is just a few blocks from our old house).

We had a delicious lunch and then took a little walk…

…over to The Yarn Shop! It’s so funny getting into a new hobby and realizing that there are stores that have been there all along to support said hobby, but you never paid attention until now! Bella and I had a blast looking through all the yarns and spending some Christmas money and gift certificates that we had.

Is there anything more yummy than hand-dyed purple yarn?!

On our way back, we came upon a young man stuck in the ditch…he has slid off the road on an icy patch and couldn’t get out. My amazing husband used his tow strap to pull him out and send him on his way. We had a great talk with the girls about how we should always help others when we are able.

Upon returning, I started my very first knitting project…a dish rag with happy rainbow yarn! It’s going well so far…learning from mistakes as I go. Just like life :)

Before bedtime, Uncle Ryan taped tons of glow sticks on giant punching balloons, turned off the lights and let the kids go crazy! I don’t have a photo, but they sure had fun. We’ve had a wonderful time in Bozeman with family…tomorrow is our last day here and then it’s back to Colorado for a day and on the airplane to Iowa the next. Life is always an adventure! Hope your Christmas was joy-filled and wonder-full. xxoo

I also went yarn shopping today! I am learning to crochet and bought my hooks and yarn and started learning the chain stitch earlier this evening. <3

    That rainbow yarn is amazing!

I love that you were able to help a stranger in need. Giving of yourself is the best gift you can give your fellow man. And, being able to be that example right in front of your children, priceless. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Bless you.

I saw on one gals blog where they put multi colored glow sticks in a bubble bath, shut off the lights & let the kids go at it!!
She got the sticks like 10 for a buck at a craft shop
Bet your gals would love that!

the yarn sure looks fun. My daughter is really getting into rug hooking or latch hook, or whatever it is supposed to be called. So fun to see them go.

The only thing as yummy as hand-dyed purple yarn is hand-dyed green yarn!…I have been following your blog for quite a while now and am absolutely certain you are going to love your new hobby- in fact I was surprised that you have only just ventured into the delights of yarn as it seems to fit you so well. Enjoy, enjoy! and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I am learning to knit as well! Dishrags for me, too. Can’t wait to see how your projects turn out! I dream of one day making mittens and hats and slippers… and the list goes on. I also want to learn to felt so I can make bags. One project at a time, I guess! Happy knitting!

Sure you know this Sara, but only use 100% cotton for dishrags. They work much better. It looks like thats what you have there in the yummy rainbow yarn.

I came across your blog today via my Zite/Knitting feed. I’ve been knitting for…oh…off and on for 47 years. I started back in 2000, beginning with…wait for it….dishclothes! My Mom had always made them (for all of us) and it seemed a good place to start. After about 40 or 50, I went on to baby hats. (I wanted to start small.) I quickly realized I needed somewhere to send them all – charity knitting on the net! (AC4C, all crafts for charity). This brought baby sweaters and one year in and it was socks.

The very best site I can recommend to new knitters (and more experienced) is Ravelry.com. It’s free. There are over 1.3 million members world-wide. And there are all kinds groups: where you live, interests (home schooling, other interests, reading, etc). There are also beginning groups where more experienced knitters will help you. (I belong to a few Christian ones.) There are also groups that meet together in person for knitting times – who are willing to help beginners!

I also invite you to write me if you have any questions.

    Blessings,
Karen in AZ (Ravelry name: TetaKnits)

I just made two monogrammed dishcloths with that same multi-colored yarn. If you do a search on Ravelry, you can find dishcloths with every letter of the alphabet on them. They are quick gifts – I made my with a “J” for my best friend, Jena, and an “R” one for her great amazing husband and chef, Ray. Have fun! You’ll feel so happy when you complete this first project :-)

I have always wanted to go to Montanta. The idea of the state intrigues me, thank you for your updates and photos. I am planning a long RV trip when my daughter is older, should we include Bozeman? Thank-you, I have followed your blog(s) for well over a year now.
