Knitting Season

I tend to knit more in the winter and hoop more in the summer. The leaves are falling and snow is flying…so it’s time to KNIT! The familiar tap tap tap of my favorite Addi Turbo needles brings a special joy to my heart :)
Here are a few projects that I’ve finished lately.

The “GAPtastic Cowl” for my sister’s birthday.

An alpaca cowl for my midwife and dear friend, Rebecca.

All patterns and details can be found on my Ravelry project page!

What are you knitting right now?

I made a GAPtastic cowl last Christmas. I LOVE IT! It’s so cozy and fun. Knitting and sipping fancy coffees is definitely one of my favorite fall activities.

An estonian stole in a lovely rich orangey/red. It’s a lovely bit of textured lace that makes my heart sing with every stitch.

    Love the gap cowl!

  • Nakai

I’m knitting a baby blanket and crocheting several hats, a cowl and a few scarves.

It’s been far too long since I’ve picked up my knitting – 10 months in fact. I do love to knit and am an old knitter from wa-ay back. Your cowls are very nice – especially the brighter one on Rebecca. Will have to check out your Ravelry page too. Haven’t been to Ravelry in a lo-ong time!
Since our seasons are different here in San Francisco, knitting(and hooping)can happen at any time of the year, but I sure understand in a 4-season climate the rhythms of staying in and knitting. But when you need a break from sitting and knitting – have your hoop handy so you can get in a burst for a song or two!:) Often short, intense bursts of exercise are great anyway!

  • Kristy

I’m working on a book sample for an upcoming publication on Christmas stockings and also making some dishtowels. I’ll be hooping this afternoon.

I am knitting NOTHING because I hate knitting, but I’m so glad you like it :) I have two sister-in-laws who love it too. One just knitt me a beautiful cowl that I’m so happy to have. I much prefer spending my winter days writing. National Novel Writing Month starts TOMORROW! So you knit yarn and I’ll knit words, and we’ll both follow our bliss :)

Rebecca Love…you live in the knitting mecca of Iowa! You’re surrounded by a plethora of amazing knitters. Betsy, Jessica, Sabbath, Lisa, Amanda, Sarah, Shawna…who am I missing? There is a “3rd Monday Knitting Night” that you could go to: http://www.facebook.com/groups/257414170988177/?ref=ts&fref=ts I learned more easily in person, but you could start by going to http://www.knittinghelp.com and checking the videos out. There are LOTS of YouTube vids too. I love the yarn store in WDM called Knitted Together and they offer classes. If we can connect when we come back through, I’ll teach you! Knit knit knit!! xo

They are both beautiful! I have had the gaptastic cowl in my ravelry favorites for awhile…I think you have inspired me to get it on the needles. :) I just finished a EZ seamless sweater and I’m now working on a textured shawl for myself. Happy fall/winter knitting!

  • Liz

I just finished a baby hat and a set of mittens for my soon to be niece or nephew. Now I’m starting on a cover for my new mini ipad that is coming! I still need to do a scarf or cowl for myself for winter. Too many projects, too little time!

  • http://naturallymeg.blogspot.com Meg

Those are beautiful! I love both of them. I made that gaptastic cowl last winter for my friend, but I love the brown color that you did! I might have to make another one. My needles have been going full force as well. Right now I’m working on some little baby uggs for my step SIL’s new baby. I’m also going to be knitting some booties (or slippers) for myself ;) . Wearing hand knit warm booties all winter sounds just lovely to me! Lovely blog!

ha! funny you mention it! Just a few days ago, before Hurricane Sandy was due to hit here in RI, as most were stocking up on milk and bread, I found myself at the yarn store stocking up on some cool varrigated rainbow yarn, and digging out an old sweater pattern I used to love to make! I’m usually elbows deep in painting, but have really loved stealing a few hours over the past few nights knitting this little rainbow sweater! (Last year, when hurricane Irene hit, I was similarly prepared with funky yarn and a pattern for fingerless gloves. I never got to them though, as I was preparing for a big art show that weekend). I think it’s funny how impending storms make me want to knit…so happy to be knitting again…and I LOVE that cowl you made for your midwife…thanks for sharing the pattern!

I’ve been knitting to go cup cosies. Getting ready for a craft show! If your bind offs are too tight I was taught to try using a needle two sizes larger. I think I’ll get a skein of Misty Alpaca and knit my husband a cowl soon. mmm alpaca <3

  • Colleen Murphy Stewart

Well I don’t knit, though I would love to learn someday, but I’ve been buying some gorgeous hand knits from different etsy stores. A gorgeous pair of arm warmers (like knit mitts but longer) and a neck warmer just came in the mail :) Both with amazing colors!
Both of your projects came out beautiful!

  • http://myramblings.ca Amanda

I just want to learn to knit…I have never had the knack, even when my grandmother tried to teach me. :( I have a collection of beautiful yarn and one day WILL get the knitting thing figured out. ;)

Ahh, I just saw on your PhotoPile page that you’re in Santa Cruz this weekend! That’s funny because I was just thinking of emailing and asking when you’d ever be in/near Hollister again. I’m prepping my hair for dreadlocks and I remembered from your Happy Janssens page that you put them in for people. I was wondering how much you charge for that. I just started prepping and my hair will probably be ready right around New Year’s Eve.

Anywho… have fun in my neck o’ the woods this weekend! :)
