DPP 2012 :: Space

I spend a lot of time right here. A lot. Our kitchen is tiny enough that even when I’m standing here, I’m also standing at our kitchen table, in the art room, and close to the laundry room.

I love this space.

And because I do spend most of my days here, I strive to make it a place I WANT to be. Just yesterday, I took down the soul-sucking mini blinds and put up these mind-blowingly awesome lavender and white chevron curtains.

It took me 5 minutes tops to make my space even happier. I didn’t even hem these babies…just cut the $3 remnant of fabric into squares and hung them with clips. I quite like the imperfection of the frayed edges.

I have some amazing incense in the window…and my favorite mug filled with delicious coffee. And you all know my obsession with flags and things that hang :) My next project? Yarn bombing the tree outside my window. YES!! Unimaginable happiness. All day long.

So many times, we are STUCK. Paralyzed actually, with how things have always been in our homes. So I am challenging you to make positive change in your space! Something little…with big impact. Create a space you love!

*I’ve started a hashtag on Instagram…#createaspaceyoulove. Post your little changes! I can’t wait to see your space.

I needed to hear this today. I need to create spaces that I love…especially since my space is so tiny and so full of people ;)

Love the curtain…think I’m going to have to take the cue and make one myself. Did not realize that’s yarnbombing. I’ve seen it, but didn’t know there was an official name.

How long have you been in this house? Seems like it’s about time for you to move again!

Absolutely love this idea! I have been motivated to create a space I love in my home too — especially because it’s the first place I’ve lived in within the past four years that I will be staying in for longer than six months. With this in mind, I’m more willing to put effort towards a space I love (since I won’t have to pack it all up tomorrow). Thanks for sharing your space!

I love your special space! You have a talent for making spaces beautiful. Just the other day I was thinking about making fabric bunting or curtains for the windows in my kitchen. Little changes can make such a difference.

i don’t even know where to start….where do i start?! where do i start?! just as i was stepping into the shower i thought to myself, ‘self, just imagine you need to move in a couple weeks. clean and organize and purge like you are about to move.’ but then i thought to myself, ‘self, that’s tricking yourself and not moving in truth, just clean and organize your frickin’ house.’ because, you know i love my home, my house, our space and feel so lucky and blessed to be here… i need to clean my frickin’ (awesome) house then spiffify it ;)

    (welcome to my brain?)

Love your space! I’ve been secretly hoping for a photo tour of your house for a while now. :) Seems like DPP will bring a bit of a glimpse into your beautiful way of decorating and bringing spaces to life. Thank you! xx

Considering a just lamented 5-minutes ago about my space, this is extremely timely for me. Thank you. I love planning changes to my home, I rarely make them happen. This can be my gentle nudge in the right direction.

lovely post and a sweet reminder that i have everything i need to make my space cheerful and happy…it’s simply disguised as something else for the moment.

I’ve been working on this a lot this year. We live in a tiny cottage and I’ve been working on our little hallway recently. Picking up pretty frames for special cards and art from friends & family to hang.Special pieces of art from various vacations etc….Our bedroom is next! :)
Oh and the yarn bombing? I’m in love!

Well here’s something weird, when I look at the comment,s the name and email addy is already filled out for me, but not my name or addy! What’s up with that!?

I really like a more minimalist look in my house, but I have a few things on my kitchen windowsill: a small vase made out of a rock (with a little evergreen thing my daughter picked up on a Thanksgiving walk with her cousins) a small turquoise dish I got at goodwill with an opal frog inside that was my Grandmothers, a shell and an acorn that were aquired on a special faily trip.

I have also been secretly waiting for a house tour from you. ;) You seem to have taken a bit of a break from blogging lately, I’m not even sure how many times you’ve moved since Emma was born!

I experienced the exact same thing! But today it is autofilled with my name and email address.

I’m not sure what’s going on with my comment area, I think it’s a hacker. I will check into it! I’ll try to do a house tour soon, but no promises :) Lots of peeks at Instagram if you’re interested. We’ve lived in this house for almost a year now :)

Oh my goodness. I’m going to do this. Dishes are such a trial for me. Don’t ask me why..I can’t stand doing them. I’m going to start working on this space today.
    Thank you for sharing

Since you enjoy coffee, I thought I’d share a recent discovery of mine. They are called Chemex Coffeemakers. No electricity required, super cute and the coffee is so fresh and delicious you can even refrigerate it for later! You should absolutely check them out :)
