DPP 2012 :: Pizza & Minecraft

Filed under: December Photo Project

Tonight we met up with one of our favorite unschooling families at Proto’s Pizza in Longmont. Four adults. Six children. Amazing caesar salad. Wine, beer, and soda with our Neapolitan pizzas.

And of course, Minecraft.

Bella has recently discovered this game, which if you are unfamiliar, focuses on creativity and building…allowing players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D world. Summit and Elle have been playing for awhile, and had a lot to teach her. It’s so awesome to watch them…so passionate about their “worlds” and sharing their knowledge with each other. Soon, we’ll need a server so she can play with them remotely. What fun!

It was a wonderful night. Life is good.

    Lovely. My children love MineCraft too! And, of course, we all love pizza! :-) x

    My daughters (5&6) love MineCraft! In the evenings they play together with daddy. They have learned so much through that game.

    Due to MineCraft I had a proud mom moment at the Children’s Museum. The science lady asked if anyone knew what happens when lava hits water. My 5 yr old said “It turns into obsidian” which she learned from MineCraft. It was great! All the adults were surprised! :)

    Minecraft is also about fighting and killing, isn’t it?

    I think I am one of the few parents who just doesn’t get how minecraft is fun or educational. It seems like moms everywhere go on and on how great it is and I’m like “it’s a bunch of boxes” LOL It is so popular though. For the record I am not against video games at all, I just think there are better ones than minecraft, but again, I am totally in the minority!!!

    Just wanted to add that I hope I didn’t come across like I am judging your choices, my son plays it too,(in fact he’s upstairs right now with my 4 year old playing it) I was just trying to convey that I don’t get it the attraction to Minecraft… LOL

    Such wise words. My son tends to be very passionate about whatever he is interested in and honestly for me it can be very exhausting embracing all his passions without feeling like my brains are going to spill out from his excited chatter!! LOL

    (My son is playing it as well (online), so I’m not judging anyone either… But he’s 14. And he can get really consumed by it.)

    We are rocking Minecraft over here!
    Rhyse learned you can tame the wolves and they will follow you around like a dog. She is love.
