Happy Janssens :: Family Friendly Fifth Wheel Tour

Living Room 2
In July 2012, we purchased a 2003 Keystone Laredo fifth wheel to use for our family vacations and other random gallivanting around the U.S. We spent about a week remodeling it, and have been enjoying it since. At 30 feet long, it’s currently tucked in next to our house and serves as our “guest suite” for our Colorado visitors. This is probably my favorite of all of our remodels…I love the wainscoting and all the colors together. Pure happy. Perfect layout. Just big enough. Love it.

To see more of our remodels…visit the gallery here. If you want us to remodel YOUR trailer/RV/fifth wheel…drive it to Colorado and let’s talk :)

Living Room Collage
All good things are wild and free…one of my favorite quotes greets you at the door!

Basket o Yarn
There is nothing better than a delicious basketful of yarn! :)

Pillows

FutonWe pulled out the old couch and put in a queen futon…so easy to do in a fifth wheel. Curtains are from Urban Outfitters (as are all of the adhesive quotes).

Dinette
We took out one side of the dinette and added regular chairs. It definitely helps to create more visual and tangible space.

Living Room
New laminate throughout…wool runner is from Dash & Albert (my favorite rug company!). The flags are created by ArtToGo on Etsy…love her!

Bunk Collage
There are three twin sized bunks in the rear of the fifth wheel (in this photo, there is no mattress on the bottom). This was a HUGE selling point for us. Three girls = three bunks. Fifth wheels are very family friendly if you can find the right model that works for you. Curtain is from Urban Outfitters.

Rainbow Bed from Bathroom
We pulled the factory full size RV mattress and modified the platform to accommodate our dreamy king sized bed.

Rainbow Bed
And of course…it’s purple. My favorite color. And rainbows. You can never have too many rainbows.

Life
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing! You know it.

Laredo
Our “set up”.

Driveway
Here is where you will stay if you come visit the Happy Janssens in Colorado! And because I know you’ll ask…we are NOT going back on the road :) Just love having a “getaway”! We’ve actually been in Colorado for TWO years now and in the same house for one. That’s a record. ;-) We adore Colorado and love being settled. Come and see us!

PAINT COLORS:
Purple in bedroom: Dutchess Lilac (Behr)
Green in kitchen: Lemongrass (Behr)
Blue in slide/bathroom: Catalina (Olympic)
Yellow in bunk: Lions Mane (Olympic)

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE…the wainscoting is pure genius! I have to know the names of the purple and teal colors. Simply gorgeous!

That looks so awesome, cute, and just plain old fun! When I wish upon a star I see myself and my 2 daughters RVing in a class A or class C with bunks – and that it’s decked out in a similarly adorable style that fits our personalities.

Sorry to hear you’re not going back out on the road.

Gorgeous remodel. You have such playful aesthetics. It’s wonderful to see the transformation of typically beige and dowdy interiors in rv’s become so homey and fun. :)

Thanks for sharing another remodel tour with us! Your past ones really inspired me as well. We had a very old TT that we renovated and added lots of soul and love. We lost it last year in a crash. Thank God we were all alright, but “mourn” losing our beloved Campy. Now we have a newer one with NO personality yet. I know it’s on me to love it up. Even though it’s really a better fit for our family, I can tell the family can’t quite bond with it because it’s so neutral and they miss the old one. Your post has reminded me to get to it!

Do you just find all your awesome afghans here and there, or did someone make them for you? I think the fastest thing I can do to immediately liven up our new digs is to cover all the horrid upholstery–FAST!

    Thanks again, aimee in indiana

Aw shame we live so far away!! We have a modest five berth caravan that also serves as a guest suit conveniently placed outside our back kitchen door!

As always you excell yourselves with the remodels, you definitely have a calling in this area!

Oh my!!!! It would be so wonderful if me and Joe could come for a visit in the future!!!

  • http://www.littlegreendesigns.etsy.com Kate

So how do you paint these walls, Sara? The interior walls of an RV are usually some sort of wall-paper/vinyl thing, right? Do you just sand it a bit and paint over? Or try to remove it? Love it! We’re considering our camping options now… trailers vs VW vs motorhomes… so many decisions, but this is gorgeous, and the bunk makes it completely ideal for kiddos!

  • Lori

    LOVE everything about this…great job!

We like the Action Bible, too :)

    Lori

  • bella

    i love that RV

  • Kim

Did I miss the before photos?

  • Lesley

I always enjoy your RV posts. You guys do such a great job transforming the interiors into something livable and not boring beige or country blue. You said the Laredo had twin size bunks and I am wondering if that is a standard length twin or a smaller rv sized twin. I have a 7 year old that will be getting his own bunkroom (if we ever get a 5th) and cannot find any dimensions online, and curious just how quickly he might outgrow his bed.

  • http://www.ColumbiaAreaMidwives.com Dawn

So cute! What is the name of your paint color in the living room area? It’s a teal… and may I ask where you found the rainbow crocheted afgan on the bed?

    • Naomi

Blue in slide/bathroom: Catalina (Olympic). And I bet she either crocheted/knitted the afghan herself, someone made it for her or she got it at a thrift store.

  • bella

i love are RV do you love you mom

  • Naomi

You always have those birds in the kitchen window!

Do you get them from World Market?

    • http://www.walkslowlylivewildly.com Sara

LOL…yes, probably World Market. I love anything that hangs!! :-)

  • http://facebook.com/whitcleary Whitney

Hey Sara… howdy do! Did you buy the crocheted bedspread? I remember there was one on Bella’s bunk in one of the previous remodels, but I didn’t think it was that big. I want one!

Spot on with this write-up, I seriously believe that this site
needs much more attention. I’ll probably be returning to read more, thanks for the info!

  • http://karenbob.Wikispaces.com/ karenbob

Howdy! I could have sworn I’ve visited this site before but after looking
at a few of the posts I realized it’s new to me.

Regardless, I’m definitely pleased I came across
it and I’ll be book-marking it and checking back frequently!

  • http://maxgreencoffeebeanextract.com/ Max

Wow, so bright and funky. Definitely gives off a welcoming vibe :)

  • Jim

Looks great! How do you get the paint on the walls to come out no nice? Paint right over the wallpaper?

    • http://walkslowlylivewildly.com/ Sara

Thanks Jim…yes, we just paint right over the wallpaper, removing borders if need be.
